Embracing Oriental Style with Max Fashion

Hello Chicas,

Spring has finally arrived after months of dedication to velvet dresses and teddy jackets and with the new fashion season comes a fresh batch of trends to get our heads around. The things that I get most excited about the changing of the seasons are fresh colors, new prints and updated clothes. To revamp my wardrobe, I recently browsed through the newly launched Spring collection from Max Fashion and was elated seeing so many wonderful styles. Their Spring collection 2018 revolves around four themes, Work, Play, Fun and Travel. I personally love their travel themed collection, which is mostly dominated with Oriental designs, a perfect infusion of Eastern and Western fashion sensibilitiesI have created two looks for you'll featuring the collection from the travel section from Max Fashion.

Oriental inspired clothing has been weaving stories of opulence and exoticism across the runways. Oriental clothing is just not about mandarin gowns; there's much more to the trend from exotic prints and embroidery to an air of androgynous cool. I'm glad that Max Fashion is bringing back Oriental fashion with its Spring 2018 collection. From satin dresses to structured tops, the take is ornate, colorful, floral and absolutely gorgeous. Vibrant colors like golden and red are the major protagonists in this style.

Look 1

For the first look, I opted for a red satin floral robe. Last season’s sleepwear-as-daywear phenomenon focused mostly on tops, pants and slip dresses. This season the trend has made a progression into kimono-style robes. The fluid and ethereal fabric makes for a perfect travel friendly look. I have layered the robe over a black shift dress to allow easy movement while travelling. The robe can also be worn with a slogan tee and pair of cropped silk pants or shorts. I have completed the look with a pair of sleek black heels and silver loops. I channeled my inner Eastern diva by pulling my hair back into a top bun.

My Red Valentine

 Hello Chicas,

Firstly, I would like to apologize for the delayed post on my Valentine's outfit. I have been super busy trying to multi-task so many things at a time. I ended up spending Valentine's week in a village with my friends on a field visit for our college project and it was an altogether very unique experience.
I have always celebrated Valentine's day with my friends and family. For me it has been the perfect excuse to put on a cute outfit and hit the town.

Now moving onto the outfit, I came across this midi length red tulle dress in a thrift store and the very first thing which came to my mind was that I found my Valentine's day outfit. However, a red dress sounded way too cliched to me for Valentine's and therefore I decided to add some layer to it. I have paired a floral embroidered crop top over the dress which is again another way to flaunt the innerwear as outerwear trend. The floral embroidery and the red color makes for a perfect Valentine's day look, perhaps out for a brunch with your girlfriends or on a date with your lover. For accessories, I opted for a black handbag with metal studs which gives the outfit a very edgy look. I finished the look with a classic pair of black pumps, mid parted hair and a black lace hand chain.

Meshing Around

Hello Chicas,

In my last blog post I started off with the series inner wear as outerwear and today's post is in continuation of it. As we all know Valentine's day is around the corner, so I have created this look keeping in mind the season of love.

An easy way of wearing the lingerie trend is by layering it with a sheer top or a peek-a-boo shirt. I have paired the same faux leather Bralette from the last post with a sheer black top. I totally fell for the sleeves of the top the moment I saw it. Mesh or netted fabric is currently trending and is my personal favorite too, as it makes one look effortlessly sexy. I have paired the top with a pleated skirt in blush pink. The color and the flared hem of the skirt makes for a pretty cute date outfit. Lastly, I have added a bomber jacket which has this really beautiful floral embroidery. I'm so glad that embroidery is back in fashion, I have already ended up buying quite a few of them. This look is a blend of both cute and sexy at the same time, the blush pink color with the floral embroidery gives a very enchanting feel, whereas the combination of mesh top and Bralette lends an edgy look to the outfit.

Accessory wise, I have just added a pair of black pumps to complete the look. Also, I finally tried my hands on brown lipstick and I'm totally crushing over it. The one I'm wearing is a lip filler from Colorbar in shade 14. It's a pretty affordable shade, a little drying since it comes in the form of a pencil but looks smashing.

Gone With The Wind

Hello Chicas,

As I turn a year older today, I look back and realize that life has been a roller coaster ride for me. In life you may not get what you want, but someday you will surely get what you deserve. People who know me are aware of the fact that I had been pursuing CA for the past few years. However, whenever I use to daydream (which by the way, I do a lot) about the future, I always thought of myself as working in some swanky fashion company. So, very recently after all these years it occurred to me that to fulfill this dream of mine I need a degree in fashion. :D
And, finally, after clearing a few tests and interviews, I got the chance to be a part of the very prestigious fashion college, National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kolkata. I am pursuing Master's in fashion management there and thoroughly enjoying every bit of it. Never in my wildest dream had I thought that I will actually be a part of NIFT and be able to make a career shift. This past year has been incredible to me, from travelling to some amazing places, to moving a step closer to my goals, I feel extremely blessed and thankful to God and my parents who have always been my support system. So, guys dream on and work hard to achieve them.

As we all know, off-the-shoulder silhouettes are all the rage right now and very summer friendly. Personally, I love this shoulder peeping style and find it very sexy. They look flattering on every body type and come in various forms. A few easy peasy ways of styling them are:

  • You can dress an off -shoulder dress by pairing it up with heels or dress them down by adding sneakers and a backpack.
  • For a fun beach look you can wear a bardot top with shorts or skirts.
  • Whereas, people who are not so comfortable with a full bardot neckline can opt for cold shoulder tops or dresses.
  • For office goers, a structured off-shoulder top with a pencil skirt or trousers is a great way to try this trend.
  • You can go bare neck or accessorize with layers of necklace or just flaunt a statement choker for a boho-chic look.

Coming to my birthday outfit, I chose an off-shoulder dress in floral print. The dusk blue color of the dress was the first thing which caught my eyes. And the smocking pattern with the off shoulder neckline further enhanced the beauty of the dress.
I have styled my off shoulder dress with a sleek silver choker. As the dress was pale and subtle, I thought of adding a colorful punch with pom pom shoes which I created myself using pom pom balls on a black lace up wedge heels. These colorful bunch of cuteness looks good on almost everything and I'll be very soon sharing with you all a post on how to make your own pom pom shoes. I opted for a tan fedora and tassel sling to complete the look. Also, this is my first time with purple lips and I'm totally loving it. MAC Heroine is an amazing shade and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for purple lip color. All thanks to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for making purple lipstick so popular post her red carpet appearance in Cannes. I wanted a mid-parted straight hair look, but the weather God had something else on his mind so please excuse my frizzy, wavy hair.

Styling Culottes

Hello Chicas,

Cropped pants are one of the hottest trends this season, but styling them can be pretty tricky. Being a petite, I dread of anything which falls at the mid-calf area. Wearing them is one of the biggest fashion faux pas I have committed in the past which made me look short and stubby. However, after spotting them everywhere around I thought of giving it a go.

Styling Culottes

Culottes or gauchos pants are basically wide-legged cropped pants, which comes in different lengths. Despite of their awkward length, there are numerous ways to actually work around this trend.

  • Finding the right length is the key to ace this look. While tall ladies can effortlessly work the mid calf length, petites  should stick to knee or ankle length culottes which would create an illusion of longer legs.
  • As they mostly come with a mid/high rise, the best way to style them for a pear or apple shaped figure would be pairing them up with a crop top so that it doesn't make your waist look wide.
  • As they come in different prints and fabric they can be totally work appropriate as well. A pair of well tailored culottes with a structured blazer is sure to turn heads at your work place.
  • Tribal or Ikat print culottes can be worn with a breezy flared top for a bohemian look. You can also check out culottes in ethnic styles available in Max stores. You can add a kurta over it for a fun Indo-western look.
Lastly, the cropped hem brings attention to your footwear. So, complete the look with a pair of chunky heels or pointed pumps.

How did I wear culottes.

Coming to my outfit, I wore a black ankle length culottes. The ribbed pattern with elasticized waist makes it a cool and comfy casual wear. I have paired it up with an orange floral top. Orange has been my favorite color since my childhood. I have an entire section of orange clothes, lipsticks and accessories. I feel orange is totally my color as it really flatters my dusky complexion. Anyway, I can go on and on about my love for orange so let's not get into that. Other than the color of the top, I loved the dramatic bell sleeves and the plunging v-neckline. A black choker and round sunnies gave the entire look a retro touch. I have accessorized the outfit with a tan backpack and chunky block heels.

A Neutral Saga

Hello Chicas,

Neutral colors continue to dominate the fashion industry after taking over the fall fashion last year. I'm personally all about wearing bright and loud colors so this time I thought of trying something different and challenged myself to create a look with neutral colors.

So, what are neutral colors?

A color can be considered as a neutral on the basis of how effectively it blends into with other colors. Neutral or universal colors comprise of black, white, grey and brown. Different tints of the above mentioned shades is also referred to as neutrals, like, ivory, cream, tan, camel. Although they may sound dull and boring to many of us, but styling them is the easiest job. Also, one cannot ignore the fact that these colors are so versatile, I mean we can just throw a pair of beige shoes on any outfit as they go with almost every color.

Why neutrals?

  • A neutral outfit can be one's go to to look. They literally go with everything and anything.
  • One can wear them again and again, unlike other outfits in statement colors which cannot be repeated often.
  • Neutrals are versatile as you can wear them a number of times with other neutral as well as bright colors thereby creating multiple looks.
  • Neutrals are always on trend and can be worn all year round.

How to wear neutrals?

  • For someone who is not yet ready to give into this trend, they may experiment with different shades of colors like navy blue or pale pink which are also neutrals.
  • Neutrals build the foundation of our basic wardrobe. Buying basic tees or trousers in tan or military green is the best way to incorporate them in our daily wear.
  • Neutral accessories are the best investment. They go with most of the outfits and helps to achieve a sleek look. Footwear, belts and handbags in neutrals are classic buys and never go out of style.
  • One can also add a pop of color to a neutral outfit. A red blouse with a white skirt or a tamarind tote with an all black ensemble will break the otherwise monotonous look.
  • Special attention must be given to the fit and shape. As the color is not the major focus here so, naturally the attention diverts to details like fit. An ill-fitted neutral outfit can make one look sluggish.
How did I wear neutrals?

Coming to my outfit, I chose a pleated maxi skirt in olive which has buttoned sides and an attached buckle belt to it. I was pretty happy with the color and the material of the skirt, but something which totally annoys me about maxi skirts from Forever 21 is their length. They are abnormally long, like even after wearing a pair of 5 inch heels. Anyway, being a petite I am used to this situation so got the skirt customized by a local tailor. I have paired the skirt with a peach floral print top which has a round neckline and bell sleeves. The blue floral motifs on it added a pop to the outfit. Accessory wise, I have again opted for neutral colors, a brown tassel sling and a black choker. Finally, a messy braid and coral lips completed the look.

Floral Drop Waist Dress

Hello Chicas,

Today's outfit post is a casual one which I recently wore for a lunch date with my girlfriends. I wore this cute floral drop waist dress that is a bodycon dress with a flared hem. Wearing  a small flower print outfit is one way to distract attention from the problem areas. So curvy women should totally avoid big prints. As the dress was a short one, I went for smaller block heels and gave my usual sky high heels a miss. Recently I read somewhere about how French girls match shoes with their dresses which I found really cool and would love to share with you all. So it goes like, if the outfit you are wearing is above the knee pair it with flats and for the ones below the knee style it with high heels. So that's how you strut like a French girl. A red cross body sling with a matching red reflective sunnies completed the look.

Flower Girl!

Hello Chicas,
How are you all doing? It's been a while since I posted an outfit due to my exams. Post that I took a break doing nothing but chilling at home, watching movies, shopping online. :) Moreover the heat these days has made it impossible to go out and shoot.
As the temperature went down a few days back, I took the opportunity to shoot my first summer outfit. Coming to the OOTD, I wore an extremely light and comfy chiffon tunic. I'm so done with floral print, but this particular sunflower print was a total eye catcher. I wore this tunic as a dress by pairing it underneath with black shorts. The tunic being so light and breezy is one of the best purchase this summer.
I have co-ordinated my bag and shoes by wearing a tan shade. The fringe bag is a recent splurge from Koovs India and it's going to be the most abused bag this season. I didn't add anything else as I hate accessorizing during summers. My round olive sunnies with an orange pout completed the look. Enjoy the pics. :)
