A walk into the woods

Hello Chicas,

After playing around with summer colors and prints for quite a while now, I thought of taking a break from the floral madness and opt for something different. Recently I came across the newly launched "Unleash Your Wild Side" collection by The Label Life in collaboration with Magnum India. I was completely floored by the idea of amalgamation between ice-cream and couture. The entire collection of clothing and accessories is inspired by Magnum's colors which includes brown, white and gold. Adding to the bold colors are the feisty motifs and prints inspired by animals.

Being a sucker for all things retro, I went ahead and bought a brown animal print scarf which I feel is such a classy and versatile piece. This time I have updated an off shoulder dress by layering it with the scarf casually. Due to the hot and humid weather I didn't do anything fancy with the scarf, just threw it casually over the off-shoulder dress which ended up giving a cold shoulder look. For those of you who are not very comfortable going bare shoulder, a scarf is the perfect accessory to play around. Overall, I really liked the color palette of the look, the brown animal print blended with sea green beautifully. I didn't want to add any pop of color this time and therefore opted for neutral accessories, a pair of grey mules and a black handbag.

Rivaah by Tanishq

Hello Chicas,

Last month I got a chance to witness the extravagant exhibit of the Rivaah collection from Tanishq at the Sonar Sansar Jewellery exhibition. The Rivaah collection encompasses a wide range of stunning handcrafted wedding jewellery for brides from across India, designed and conceptualized by the design team in Bangalore. Rivaah is the amalgamation of Tanishq’s tradition and craftsmanship – Rivaaz and the sacred bond of marriage – Vivaah. Irrespective of which part of the country a bride hails from, jewellery is always an integral part of the wedding ceremonies. Rivaah comprises of ornate creations in gold, diamond, Kundan and Polki, to cater to a bride hailing from any community across India. Every piece of jewellery from Rivaah, be it a haathphool for a Punjabi bride or a kamarbandh for a Kannadiga bride, is a Tanishq masterpiece in itself.  Jewellery from Rivaah collection is priced at Rs. 1 lakh.

It was quite a task for me to create a look from the wide variety of jewellery available. Keeping in mind the outfit I wore, which was a basic v neck white tee worn backwards to give a mock neck effect over a grey maxi skirt with printed hem, I opted for a heavy statement choker and earrings which was from their Marwari bride collection. It had this beautiful Polki detailing which made me completely fall for it. After wearing all these pieces I felt that something was still missing and that's when I thought of incorporating some Bengali elements too. So I layered the choker with a traditional Bengali haar and bangles. And the end result was that I was all set to attend a wedding if not be the bride.

Project Melange

Hello Chicas,

Hope you all are doing good. I have been super busy these days, working on a few projects for my blog and juggling with numerous interviews for the upcoming summer internship. Speaking of summers, I'm having a really tough time shooting the outfits and I'm badly longing for a vacation in the hills.

Recently for one of my college assignments, I had to create a Lookbook with the theme textile. Having not much traditional items in my closet to recreate the look, I thought of coming up with a fusion getup instead. While hunting for the outfits, I came across this mustard yellow dress from KAZO which I had bought last year, but never wore it as I found the length of the dress quite unflattering on my petite body. So, this time I thought of wearing the dress over pants and that's when one of my recent buys, a pair of printed palazzo pants came to the rescue. These ajrakh printed flared pants in navy complimented the mustard dress beautifully. For accessorizing, I went for a red bindi and a pair of pearl earrings which I purchased from an exhibition put up by the students of Sawansukha Jewellers Institiute. Furthermore, the maroon studded sling and black pumps added a touch of modern appeal to the look.

Not-so-basic, Basics!

Hello Chicas,

When it comes to closet staples like blue jeans and a white tee, being basic isn't a bad thing. After all what could we have possibly done had every single piece of clothing in our closet been a show-stopper. Basic items of clothing gives us an opportunity to wear them a hundred times in various ways. Lately, I have started incorporating a lot of basic clothing in my wardrobe as not only the current weather demands so but also they are so versatile.

There's something about summers that makes the white tee a wardrobe essential. Whether it's for pairing it up with a loud statement bottoms or going casual with basic overalls, this incredible staple piece creates possibility of putting together innumerable different look.

Coming to my outfit, I have paired a slouchy white tee with a star print denim. I recently bought this pair of boyfriend jeans from Boohoo and I'm already in love with it. To elevate the look, I have added a charcoal grey bralette. Bralette is one of the hottest trend this season and so is the subtly exposed bra look. As the tee was a little slouchy, I have worn it in a one shoulder fashion in order to give a sneak peek to the bralette. For accessorizing the look, I have opted for a black sling bag and open toed block heels in the same color.

Stepping out with Instax Mini 8

Hello Chicas,

If you are following me on my social media channels, you must be knowing that I attended a bloggers' meet a few weeks back organized by Fujifilm India. And there we were introduced to their recent launch Instax mini 8 camera with various combo offers designed for special occasions. Retro is trending right now, whether it's the retro filters on Instagram or the various photo editing apps giving a vintage vibe to the pictures. Amidst all this, Fujifilm has also made an effort to bring back the retro feel to cameras with their latest launch of Instax camera. Instant photo system “instax” allows people to enjoy photos that are taken and printed immediately. It enables users to create photos that are unique, instant, and remain with them forever.

The entire range consists of:
Mini 8 Joy Box
Mini 8
Instax Hello Kitty
Neo Classic Mini 90
Mini 70
Wide 300

About the Camera Instax Mini8:

After the event, we were gifted the Instax mini 8 Bundle pack which consists of the Instax Mini 8 camera, 2 X Twin Filmpack (40 shots), Fancy Stickers and Bunting. The MRP of the Instax Mini 8 Bundle pack is INR 8633 however, it's available online at a discounted price of INR 5999. Instax is available in seven different, cheerful colors namely Raspberry, Grape, White, Pink, Blue, Yellow and Black. I was lucky enough to receive the color, pristine white on which I had my eyes on.
As the name suggests, it is a cute and compact camera that pushes out photos instantly. The retro bit is not only limited to the camera type, the photos too have a rather retro look to them. The camera is not heavy, but feels strong enough. It runs on two double AA batteries and you need to purchase a separate special film pack. To take a picture, just like old camera you look inside the eyepiece, captures the subject and click. Instantly a white film comes out from the top of the camera and within a minute or two, the photo starts developing and in another four to five minutes it takes its final form. The Mini 8 takes the films of the size of a credit/debit card and a pack of films have a maximum of 10, so make sure you use them wisely. You can buy them online at a price of Rs. 1020 for a pack of 20 films. The plus point of Instax mini 8 is definitely the easy functioning and set-up. Also the pictures have this Instragram-filter quality, which I really liked.

My verdict:

If you are tired of the mundane photography I would suggest you to get your hands on these. The camera brings the memories of old-school photography back. The compact size and the easy functionality is perfectly suitable for clicking pictures while travelling or at a get together with your friends and family. Also, it makes for such an awesome gift for your loved ones. The picture quality might not be anything close to the trending Dslrs, but the pictures clicked from it will bound to bring a smile on your face.

What I wore:

For my first outing with Instax Mini 8, I chose to wear a comfortable yet feminine outfit. I have paired a denim mini skirt which has this grid pattern on it with a peplum top. The pastel pink and grey stripes along with ruffled sleeves and waistline lends a feminine and retro touch to the outfit. Accessory wise, I have opted for a pair of black gladiators, studded sling bag and last but not the least the very cute Instax Mini 8.

AFRA TAFRI - Brew up the Madness

Hello Chicas,

With summers round the corner, Kolkata welcomed the largest transitional Gastro Brew Pub, Afra Tafri. We were invited for a fun cocktail mixing session followed by food tasting. Situated in the heart of the city, adjacent to Industry House on the first floor of Haldiram Building- 9 Camac Street, Afra Tafri is aimed at providing a new age drink and food experience to Kolkata. The 180-plus seater is done up in wood, with plush chairs and sofas as seating options.  Divided into three sections — a large room at the end that can transform into a PDR or conference room, the main seating area that houses the bar, and a spacious and open smoking room. The interiors are very quirky with colorful murals on the wall and a huge drum installation on the ceiling right at the entrance.

The food menu curated by Ranveer Brar comprises of global cuisines with quirky named dishes like Akkad Bakkad Kukkad, Gondogol, Desi Swag Nachos. So the food tasting session started with cocktails made by the legendary bartender, Shatbhi Basu. It was an amazing experience seeing her going behind the bar and making some really innovative cocktails for us. I really liked the Watermelon Mojito which comprised of watermelon juice, black pepper and white rum.
Jager Atom was another winner which is a Red Bull and Jager-meister drink with glowing Jager spheres that pops in your mouth. The drink is very smooth and we couldn't help ourselves ordering another round. The USP of Afra Tafri is the microbrewery which is yet to open and promises some really creative flavored beer.

Coming to the food menu, my favorite pick from the lot is Chilli Mushroom Pate Jam Pot was the yummiest. It's a jar full of mushroom pate made with oyster mushrooms and olive oil, served with tawa parathas and Bhavnagri chilies to spice up the dish. The Hum Saath Saath hai platter is another favorite which comprises of Indian Breads, Paneer and a bowl of Kaali Daal which is cooked for 72 hours and is to die for. Among the desserts, the Bong Tiramisu stole the show which is an Indian version of the Italian coffee flavoured dessert.

For the press meet, I wore a grey maxi dress over a white lace up top. I have been wearing this dress since winters and I cannot think of parting way with it anytime soon. A pair of
black gladiators and maroon studded sling completed the look.

Transitional Weather Dressing

Hello Chicas,

So it's officially that time of the year when the weather seems to be going through an identity crisis. One day, it's hot and sunny while the next day we are subjected to cool breezy weather. As these early days of spring are turning out to be super unpredictable, it's time to gear up for the transitional weather dressing. Now is the perfect time to take out your short dresses for a spin and layering them with pieces from your winter wardrobe. And today I'll be talking about one such outfit which is perfect to wear during this transitional time.

On one such confused weather day, I wore a maroon bodycon dress which has this tie-up detailing on the neckline, this trend has been my favorite for quite some time now as I find it very sexy. The dress is in jersey fabric, making it light and airy. I have layered the dress with a beige shrug which has fringes on the hem. This shrug from KAZO has buttons on the shoulder and can be also worn as a top. I really loved the final outcome of mixing these two warm toned colors. Coming to accessories, I have gone all color coordinated this time with a pair of chunky high heels in cream and oxblood lips.

So this is one way to mix and match different pieces from your wardrobe without having to compromise your winter wardrobe soon. My next post will also be on early spring weather but with bright pastels.

Closet Must Have- The Slip Dress

Hello Chicas,

How have you all been? I'm back with the last outfit from the inner wear as outer wear series and this time I have styled a slip dress. I had shot this outfit quite a long time back but didn't get the chance to post as I have been on a crazy schedule for the past few months. Anyway, coming to the most favorite trend of mine, slip dresses are versatile and is one of the most multi-purpose pieces of clothing one can own. I have been wearing them since last summers in various ways and they aren't going away anytime soon. Although wearing them in summers is an easier job, but that doesn't mean you have to keep them away during the cooler weather. The key to make your slip dress transition easily from season to season is layering. Be it a chunky knit or a denim jacket, the easiest way to wear them in colder weather is by pairing them with another article of clothing.

Coming to my look, I am wearing a suede slip dress in baby blue. This is such a cute and soothing color and can be worn in summers too. I have paired the dress with a ribbed mock neck full sleeve top. As mentioned above, you can team it up with any piece from your wardrobe. Wardrobe basics like a white shirt or something as simple as a basic tee can be worn with the slip dress to amp up the look. For accessories I went for a pale pink pumps to compliment the pastel dress and a white studded sling with tassel detailing.

My Red Valentine

 Hello Chicas,

Firstly, I would like to apologize for the delayed post on my Valentine's outfit. I have been super busy trying to multi-task so many things at a time. I ended up spending Valentine's week in a village with my friends on a field visit for our college project and it was an altogether very unique experience.
I have always celebrated Valentine's day with my friends and family. For me it has been the perfect excuse to put on a cute outfit and hit the town.

Now moving onto the outfit, I came across this midi length red tulle dress in a thrift store and the very first thing which came to my mind was that I found my Valentine's day outfit. However, a red dress sounded way too cliched to me for Valentine's and therefore I decided to add some layer to it. I have paired a floral embroidered crop top over the dress which is again another way to flaunt the innerwear as outerwear trend. The floral embroidery and the red color makes for a perfect Valentine's day look, perhaps out for a brunch with your girlfriends or on a date with your lover. For accessories, I opted for a black handbag with metal studs which gives the outfit a very edgy look. I finished the look with a classic pair of black pumps, mid parted hair and a black lace hand chain.

Meshing Around

Hello Chicas,

In my last blog post I started off with the series inner wear as outerwear and today's post is in continuation of it. As we all know Valentine's day is around the corner, so I have created this look keeping in mind the season of love.

An easy way of wearing the lingerie trend is by layering it with a sheer top or a peek-a-boo shirt. I have paired the same faux leather Bralette from the last post with a sheer black top. I totally fell for the sleeves of the top the moment I saw it. Mesh or netted fabric is currently trending and is my personal favorite too, as it makes one look effortlessly sexy. I have paired the top with a pleated skirt in blush pink. The color and the flared hem of the skirt makes for a pretty cute date outfit. Lastly, I have added a bomber jacket which has this really beautiful floral embroidery. I'm so glad that embroidery is back in fashion, I have already ended up buying quite a few of them. This look is a blend of both cute and sexy at the same time, the blush pink color with the floral embroidery gives a very enchanting feel, whereas the combination of mesh top and Bralette lends an edgy look to the outfit.

Accessory wise, I have just added a pair of black pumps to complete the look. Also, I finally tried my hands on brown lipstick and I'm totally crushing over it. The one I'm wearing is a lip filler from Colorbar in shade 14. It's a pretty affordable shade, a little drying since it comes in the form of a pencil but looks smashing.

Peek-a-boo

Hello Chicas,

The trend of wearing innerwear as outerwear has made a comeback and how! A host of celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Rihanna can be seen rocking this trend with their delectable lingerie collection. This fashion trend is not exactly a new phenomenon as stars like Madonna, Beyonce had nailed this style in the past. While we all are guilty of hoarding countless slip dresses last season, the underwear as outerwear trend doesn't limit itself to just these slinky dresses. From bralettes to lacey camisoles, the fashion world counts them as a legitimate outdoor wear. I personally found this whole concept of wearing something as intimate as lingerie in the broad daylight bold and empowering. However, pulling off this trend is not an easy job. Newbies might find it intimidating to show off lingerie in public. So one can start off with a little peek-a-boo look by giving a glimpse of a lacey camisole or a bra worn underneath.

In today's post I'll be sharing part 1 of the underwear as outerwear series with you all and I promise to return with a few more posts on how to wear this trend. Coming to my outfit, I have chosen a black faux leather bralette to start off with this trend. I have worn the bralette over a white shirt and paired it with a checked mustard yellow pleated skirt. This has to be the easiest way to wear this trend without revealing much. For accessorizing my outfit, I opted for a white studded purse with tassel detailing and knee high socks with combat boots to battle the winter chill.

Camo Crushing

Hello Chicas,

I have been a big fan of camouflage print since my childhood days and have always had something or the other in this military inspired print. Whether for fashion or function, camo has never been out of style. Just like polka dots or stripes, camo remains to be a wardrobe classic however, this season the print is hotter than ever with celebrities and designer popularizing it. The classic olive green has to be my personal favorite which is perfect for the fall weather. Many people find it difficult to pull off this print as it looks very tough and masculine, however the trick to work this trend lies in wearing it in moderation.

Following are some of the few ways to wear this print like a pro:
  • Do not wear camo print head to toe. Stick to only one camo piece at a time to make a statement.
  • You can either wear camo with colors like black, white and other neutrals or add pastel shades to soften the look.
  • Accessorize your outfit well with golden or silver jewelry to keep the look on the feminine side.
  • Lastly, go for a well-fitted camo piece. If the camo jacket is an oversize one, balance it out with a fitted dress or tee underneath.
Coming to my outfit, I am wearing a camouflage jacket in the classic olive green version. I fell in love with this jacket the moment I saw it. The patchwork detailing adds an element of fun to this otherwise rough and tough jacket. I have worn this jacket over a graphic bodycon dress. Again, the "No thanks" slogan goes pretty well with the bad-ass army look. The soft pastel pink color of the dress lends a feminine touch to the look. I have further accessorized the outfit with combat boots and layered chokers in black. Lastly, oxblood lips and round sunglasses completed the tough-girl look.
